BECOMING A PATROLLER

BECOME A SKI PATROLLER 
If you love the outdoors and helping people, are a strong skier or rider able to access all areas of our terrain in all conditions, have your Colorado EMT and CPR certifications, and want to join one of the best patrols in the country.
COMMITMENT
Volunteer patrollers work scheduled weekend days throughout the season

Each season, part time patrollers volunteer a minimum of 10 weekend days, including a 2-day orientations/OEC training and 1 lift evacuation-training day


TRAINING DAY

• Attend the 8:00am morning meeting dressed out and ready to patrol. Patrol sweeps are generally off the mountain by about 5:30pm.
• Extensive on mountain training to include: skiing/riding, medical scenarios and protocols, mountain orientation, toboggan running, etc
• Candidates usually complete the on mountain training program within 2-4 months.  Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) will be offered off-season and is usually 2 evenings/week for 8 weeks.  

REQUIREMENTS:

 • Excellent physical condition, capable of volunteering long hours, adverse winter conditions, at high altitudes
 • Strong skier or rider able to safely access all areas of our terrain
 • Successful completion of Outdoor Emergency Care (part of the training program) or equal / greater medical qualification.     

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 • Provide appropriate medical care, and rescue to injured guests
 • Ski Terrain maintenance - boundary closures, ropes, signs, etc
 • Snow safety work - trail assessment, directed skiing, obstacles marking
 • Event coverage
 • Assisting Powderhorn Mountain guests
